Howdy from Doug Wallace of Fort Worth, Texas
For several years now, I have been transforming photos and caricatures of
famous celebrities into 3 dimensional wood carvings using the ancient art of
Intarsia.
A 'baby boomer' and an avid fan of 'days gone by', I reproduce vintage
photographs and drawings into (I have been told), incredible, unbelievable, unique
wood carvings (read my reviews on eBay at walllace-woods). Whenever possible, I
remain true to the craft - however - I realize that nature does not give us all the
necessary colors of wood, so I now take 'artistic privileges' and use coloring for
affect when needed (typically clothing and other props).
I am scheduled to be the 'featured' artist in the nationally published ' Scroll Saw
Woodworking & Crafts' Spring 2009 edition.
I have now sold several hundred pieces of my art to private collectors, museums,
honky tonks and comedy clubs.
I have been blessed with a talent where I can recapture from a photograph an
accurate likeness of 'any' individual (over the age of 12 years). My boundaries are
not celebrities - I can produce a wood carving of anyone.
